Child Development Center History

The leaders of Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church have always had a heart for children's spiritual, physical, emotional and educational needs. In the 1950s, Union Chapel's first pastor, Pastor O. D. Boone, established a full day kindergarten to meet the needs of the young children within the church and the surrounding community.

Rev. L. F. Lacy assumed the pastorship of Union Chapel on April 1, 1958. Under the leadership of Rev. Lacy and the grace of God, Union Chapel continued to grow. Because of this growth the need for an educational area arose to serve both the church and the community. Pastor Lacy envisioned the Educational complex  as a Sunday School, after school care and day care center. Pastor Lacy saw the need for affordable day care for the community. He also increased the economic base of the community by providing jobs through the day care and after school program.

Pastor O. Wendell Davis, Union Chapel's third pastor, continued the educational vision of his predecessors. Under Pastor Davis' leadership, the day care has blossomed into a Child Development Center. The Child Development Center consists of:

  •  Day Care Center
  • Christian Academy
  • After School Program
  • Summer Camp Program

The Child Development Center continues to be based on Pastor Lacy's founding principles. We are still among the most affordable centers in Madison County, yet our quality of care is second to none. We continue to provide jobs, thereby increasing the economic base of the community.

Groundbreaking ceremonies were held on June 1, 2003, for our new location on Winchester Road, next to Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Dedication Service was held September 19, 2004.
